Further Information

Hello, I’m Dr Mariam Majid, a warm and experienced Clinical Psychologist offering private therapy in Newcastle upon Tyne and online. I have over 20 years of experience supporting individuals within the NHS, and I now offer personalised, evidence-based therapy to adults seeking support with emotional and psychological difficulties.

I’m fully accredited in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR Therapy, and I work with a wide range of concerns—from anxiety and depression to trauma, grief, and more complex emotional distress.

My Approach to Therapy

I understand that reaching out for therapy can feel daunting. My approach is gentle, collaborative and rooted in empathy. I take time to really understand what’s going on for you—both now and in your past—and together, we explore ways to reduce your distress and bring about meaningful change.

I work with clients who may be experiencing:

  • Depression or low self-worth

  • Generalised Anxiety, health anxiety, or panic attacks

  • Social anxiety, OCD, and phobias

  • PTSD and complex trauma

  • Grief, loss, or significant life changes

  • Long-term emotional distress or burnout

Evidence-Based Therapy, Tailored to You

I believe that no two people are the same, and so therapy should never be one-size-fits-all. I draw from a range of evidence-based psychological approaches to create a therapy plan that is truly centred on your unique needs, goals and preferences.

I am trained and experienced in:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • EMDR Therapy for trauma and painful memories

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)

  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

  • Reprocessing Therapy for complex emotional patterns

All of my work follows the most up-to-date NICE Guidelines, and I am committed to delivering therapy that is safe, effective, and ethically grounded.

You’re very welcome to get in touch—whether you’re referring yourself or have been encouraged by a GP, friend or family member. I’d be honoured to walk alongside you on your journey.

You don’t have to face this on your own.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

My Professional Background and Training

Before becoming a Clinical Psychologist, I worked in academia and healthcare research, holding roles at various UK universities. During that time, I focused on conducting systematic reviews of healthcare interventions and treatments for clinical dissemination and publication. This early academic work gave me a deep respect for evidence-based practice, which continues to guide how I approach therapy today.

I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist from Newcastle University in 2004. I later completed specialist training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at Durham University in 2010, followed by certification as a practitioner in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR Therapy) in 2013.

Both CBT and EMDR are powerful, research-backed treatment approaches proven to help with a wide range of emotional, psychological, and behavioural difficulties, including trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns.

I am committed to ongoing professional development and attend regular training events, workshops, and clinical courses to ensure that the therapy I offer is current, evidence-based, and ethically sound. I am particularly passionate about the area of traumatic memory—how it affects the mind and body—and I continue to deepen my knowledge and skills in this field through specialist courses and ongoing clinical supervision.

I approach every client with both passion and compassion, believing wholeheartedly in each person’s ability to grow, adapt, and create meaningful change. My aim is always to provide the right therapeutic support to help make that possible.

Specialist Knowledge

Specialist Interests and Services

I have a particular interest in trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), including the impact of developmental and attachment-based trauma from childhood. These early experiences can profoundly shape how we relate to ourselves and others in adulthood. I have undertaken advanced training to support individuals affected by these deeper relational wounds, helping them to process the past and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

In addition to one-to-one therapy, I also work with couples who are struggling with communication, conflict, or emotional disconnection. I draw on relational models, including Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), to help couples identify and understand unhelpful patterns of relating, and work collaboratively to change these patterns and strengthen their emotional connection.

Another area of expertise is in clinical supervision and consultancy. I am an experienced CBT supervisor, offering reflective and developmental support to both junior and senior psychologists, as well as practitioners looking to strengthen their specialist CBT practice. My approach to supervision is collaborative, supportive, and grounded in evidence-based models.

I offer a professional and confidential therapy service from a convenient location in Newcastle upon Tyne, with flexibility to meet the needs of busy lives. Sessions are available:

  • In person, in a quiet and comfortable setting

  • Online, for clients across the UK

  • Evenings and weekends, by appointment

If you’re unsure whether therapy is right for you, I offer a free and confidential 10-minute telephone consultation where we can briefly discuss your concerns and see whether we might be a good fit to work together.
